Amazon bars off-duty warehouse workers from its buildings

Amazon is barring off-duty warehouse workers from the company's facilities, a go organizers speak tin hamper union drives.

Under the policy shared accompanied by workers on Amazon's inner app, employees are barred from accessing buildings or other employed areas on their scheduled days off, with every one other accompanied by earlier to or following their shifts.

An Amazon spokesperson said the policy does not prohibit off-duty employees from engaging their co-workers inside "non-working areas" external outside the company's buildings.

"There's nothing additional important than the safety of our employees with every one other accompanied by the physical safety of our buildings," Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said. "This policy concerning building access applies to building interiors with every one other accompanied by employed areas. It does not boundary employee access to non-working areas external outside of our facilities."

The observation of the new policy, dated Thursday, says the off-duty regulation "will not exist enforced discriminatorily" opposed to employees seeking to unionize. But organizers speak the policy itself will hinder their efforts to garner support from co-workers throughout campaigns.

"On our days off, we go nearer to labour with every one other accompanied by we capture our co-workers inside the shatter rooms," said Rev. Ryan Brown, an Amazon warehouse employee inside Garner, North Carolina, who's aiming to organize his workplace following the labour come first in on Staten Island, New York, where workers at an Amazon warehouse voted inside April to unionize.

"This was a straight response to that, to try to place an extremity to organizing by some means necessary," Brown said.

Seattle-based Amazon had formerly barred employee access to non-working areas on the far side of 15 minutes earlier to or following their shifts. The firm rescinded that policy inside December, when it entered a settlement accompanied by the National Labor Relations Board to permit workers to organize additional freely. Amazon too agreed to present with workers a heads up inside the event it chose to "reinstate a lawful regulation concerning off-duty employee access" to its facilities. A spokesperson accompanied by the NLRB declined to remark on the company's new policy.

In the observation sent to employees, Amazon said it strived to create a protected from danger environment for employees.
